'He watches everything,' Ex-Formula E champion claims Max Verstappen has ‘good understanding’ of the all-electric series
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Max Verstappen is a passionate racing driver. The Dutchman is known for his ‘old-school’ approach to F1 as he simply focuses on his campaign. However, the three-time world champion has a keen interest in all racing disciplines including Formula E. Now, ex-F1 driver and Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne has praised Verstappen.

Recently, Max Verstappen claimed that the all-electric racing series was highly competitive with drivers of good caliber. Vergne highlighted that many drivers have previously talked ‘trash’ of Formula E despite not knowing much about the championship.

Some of the drivers don’t even know what they’re talking about, some of them just talk trash about Formula E. Jean-Eric Vergne told AutoMoto

However, the Frenchman insisted that it was nice to hear Verstappen’s comments as the Red Bull driver watches many Formula E races. The Dutch driver is friends with several drivers from the electric racing series.

Max actually watches all of the races he can and is friends with many of the Formula E drivers. It’s nice to see that comment from Max. Jean-Eric Vergne affirmed

Jean-Eric Vergne highlighted that Max Verstappen essentially watched every racing series alongside his regular stints in sim-racing. As such, the Formula E champion reckoned that the three-time world champion had a good understanding of how things were in the all-electric championship.

With all of the kind of racing he watches, either in F1, I know he watches everything, and then all of the racing he does in the simulator, I think he has a pretty good understanding of what we’re going through with those cars. Jean-Eric Vergne stated

Jean-Eric Vergne claims ‘more homework’ in Formula E than F1

Jean-Eric Vergne raced in Formula 1 in the early 2010s with Toro Rosso. The French driver was ousted by Red Bull at the end of 2014. With Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz joining the Red Bull sister team Subsequently, Vergne has raced in Formula E and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) since. The former Red Bull driver was the first Formula E champion to successfully defend his title in season 5.

The French driver claimed that he needs to do a lot more homework in Formula E compared to F1 or even WEC. Jean-Eric Vergne reckoned that any new driver would need to learn and understand several things to get up to speed in the all-electric championship.

I  don’t know if we’re the most technical [series] but it sure that I have a lot more homework to do in Formula E than WEC or F1... For a new driver coming in, it is a lot like going back to school because there’s a lot of homework. There are so many things to learn and to understand. Jean-Eric Vergne concluded

Formula E has become one of the most prominent racing categories in the past decade. However, the all-electric series is yet to win over a majority of racing fans. Max Verstappen’s comments could influence more people to potentially start watching the championship in the future.
